This project was a combined art and science investigation. We were sorting materials into magnetic and non magnetic by covering each item in paint and placing them on paper on a tray. We then used a strong magnet underneath the tray to see if we could magnetically 'attract' our chosen material. We noted down our predictions for each item, some of the materials really surprised us, as we had guessed that because a cd looked shiny it would definitely be magnetic but no matter what we tried we simply couldn't get it to move.

We linked this to our learning in Art about abstract artists and in particular Jackson Pollock. We loved how his art work was all about the process not just final outcome. We got a real sense of movement and energy from his work and we reflected this in our own we found could make very different marks depending on the speed and direction we moved our magnet.
